#Strikor got a design because it's the guardian bakugan of an OC. that's it that's literally the only reason for it

Ok so I didn’t go any further with this, but under the cut I’ll show one (Strikor) and just. ramble. I also yell about Sky Raiders and other gimmicks at the end.

This boi, this draconic boi, is a Strikor! It should be noted, a lot of the entries on the bakublasters are very small comparitive to a lot of bakugan, especially anime appearing bakugan, doubly so for main character bakugan.
The little rectangular board at the front that juts out? That thing is basically the launcher, and, as far as I can tell, is moved back into place (for closing) when the disc is reinserted into the massive slot in the front.

This closed guy doesn’t have the disc in, for example, and the board is jutting out, which is the point of assumption on the disc.
It’s unfortunate the disc seems to be required, since it’d be very interesting to play for a Lowest-G-power wins trap (even if it is noted that Pyrus Strikor is 860g, and Haos Strikor is 880g. Obviously, at the end of MS2, there’d been a lot of power creep, but these bakugan are still on the stronger side.)
I didn’t mention it before, but you get two discs per bakublaster, even if they only have one slot, and yes, they have different g power between them (pyrus is noted to have a 50g disc and a 70g disc), which... makes them questionably useful under the circumstances of having the right deck to pull off a lower-G-power victory, especially given the myriad of possible cards by MS2.
Anyhow, how would I possibly have them work in the anime, assuming I had the ability to insert them in there?
Tumblr media
Ok, one, I didn’t realise Strikor had a second pair of wings/had feet when I was making a possible full form design, but that’s... fine. And two, there are weapons, in green, at the bottom. What’s up with that?
You remember how I mentioned there were two discs per bakublaster you bought? The idea was that, upon standing, a portion of the bakugan’s power would separate from the main body (but not detract from the G-power), similar to the physical game version. This means that a Pyrus Strikor might stand with 910g, with 50g of its power becoming a weapon, or with 930g, with 70g of its power becoming a different weapon.
Weapon, by the way, is meant as in “any means of defence that could do harm,” which means that shields are included here.
The discs, in the design sheet, become a spear (disc 1) or a bow and several energy arrows (disc 2). I imagine this either would depend on the person using Strikor, or on Strikor being a Strikor, irrelevant of its own personality.
Given just how much the battle brawlers were having to defend themselves in MS2 (for reference, watch the episode The Prodigal Bakugan - it’s the episode where Shun fights two whole bakugan by himself), it makes more sense to have a bakugan that can help a smaller being (a brawler, if you will) defend itself by giving a fraction of its power to give them something to defend themselves with.
I think, in the case of MS2, I’d prefer a bakugan that gives some of its power, disembodied, to help me defend myself, than a Bakugan That Jumps When It Stands.
Sky Raiders may have helped figure out what works (possible inspiration for the reboot’s ultra bakugan), but, in terms of what was going on in the anime, they were sorely obvious in only being a gimmick, rather than a gimmick that ended up affecting the plot in any way.
Gimmicks that do that?
The attribute fly wheel on Preyas, Elfin, and... kinda Elico, affect plot back in Battle Brawlers (somewhat in NV too). It’s what garners Klaus’ interest in Preyas to begin with, and is used when defeating bakugan that Marucho would otherwise lose to. While I’d argue that it should be pearl treatment bakugan, translucent bakugan (some could argue that it’s only clear bakugan, and not translucent ones) are in the plot massively, even if there’s only two: Wavern and Naga. Wavern and Naga are White Ones, attributeless bakugan, which became translucent bakugan in the physical game.
Bakugan fusing together, such as Meta Altair, and the maxus bakugan, tied in directly to NV1′s mechanical bakugan problem. This was shown later in completely organic bakugan through Ninjutsu Master Ingram in NV2, implying that it wasn’t something that could only be done through mechanical bakugan.
While more battle based than actually moving the plot, bakugan that have buttons in the physical game had abilities that triggered the “button”, such as Phosphos’ extra heads, or Avior’s neck. Battle Gear isn’t particularly plot relevant in GI, as it was in NV2 (where it was the only way into the Alternative.)
MS1... is interesting here. Bakumutants, the predecessor to the combiners in BakuTech, are less plot relevant than the bakunanos, of which are contributing to chaos within the interspace, and were only reluctantly used by Shun. Reluctantly! Bonus points to the fact that bakunanos were made by an AI, and weren’t really tested. The mechtagon, as much as I hate their anime incarnation, and them in general, are massive in the plot, to the point where I’d have to make a whole separate post on that alone - MS2 continues this, horribly enough, so this’d definitely need its own post.
Baku Sky Raiders do not do anything much, other than throw themselves at the opponent. Arguably, you could do this anyhow, without a specialised bakugan for it, and they’d still be more useful, especially in the physical game, where Sky Raiders were nigh impossible to use.
Anyway. Rambling mostly over- I just wish these guys weren’t European exclusive, or released at the very end of Bakugan’s original lifespan.
Wondering how aware people are of the bakublaster series, which included two whole Drago evos
But was reportedly not only Europe exclusive, they were also released around MS2.
#Bakugan#BakuBlaster#Strikor got a design because it's the guardian bakugan of an OC. that's it that's literally the only reason for it#Strikor#Also. Two whole dragonoid evos! Blast Dragonoid and Torpedor Dragonoid!#Interestingly Torpedor is listed as a variation to Blast - this means Torpedor is the evo for Blast#As if Drago didn't have enough evolutions...#Look I just think Dan should get a new trident#Ponk/Mycomni actually pointed out in the first discussion about the weapon idea (in the Battle Bitches server)#that a trident is a defensive weapon. not an offensive one#As if Dan wasn't basically as hard to kill as a cockroach#But I did suggest that if Drago did become a bakublaster. Dan would get a trident and a shield as the two discs#I know there are shonen protags that do get the defensive weaponry. but having Dan have the defensive options is. strangely fitting#He tries to protect people. even from his own mental problems. ones that harm him as he keeps them to himself#so having that physically embodied is super good#I know mentioning that will probably warrant questions on what the others got#I only decided on Shun because he felt obvious. Bow and Arrows#and also clawed gauntlets#the man is an antibakugan weapon in and of himself#of course he gets as much offensive power as he can - up close or from afar#also. what was up with Shun in the Prodigal Bakugan. Glowing green kunai? Shadow cloning yourself??? Shun looked like a fuckign magical girl#the whole time and you can't convince me otherwise#ok tag rambles over I will see you when I next remember to post stuff
